Joinery and Cabinet Making

Permanent Hires for Workshops That Care About the Finish

Hiring for joinery is not just about finding someone with tools and “cabinet maker” written on their resume.
You need people who understand drawings, materials, tolerances, deadlines, workshop flow, site conditions and what happens when something arrives three millimetres out.
A resume can look right. An interview can sound promising.
The real test is whether that person can step into your workshop, work to your standard, fit the team and help get quality work out the door.
Trial By Fire Recruitment helps joinery, cabinet making and shopfitting businesses across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom find permanent staff who understand the work and take pride in doing it properly.
Why Joinery Is Different
Joinery demands precision, pace and pride in the finished product.
The right person does more than turn up and use the machinery. They understand the job, communicate with the team, solve problems and keep work moving without needing someone to stand over them all day.
They know that “close enough” usually means remaking it later.
We understand the pressure of a busy workshop, tight installation dates, high-spec clients and a team that cannot afford to carry the wrong person.
Whether you manufacture custom residential joinery in Australia, commercial interiors in New Zealand or fitted furniture in the UK, the challenge is the same: finding skilled people who can contribute without dragging everyone else backwards.

Built Close to the Trade

Trial By Fire was built by a recruiter and a joiner.
James, our co-founder, is a qualified carpenter and Director of Onestop Joinery Solutions. He brings more than 15 years of hands-on experience across custom cabinetry, high-end residential joinery, commercial shopfitting, installation and workshop leadership.
Our Australian office sits above an active joinery factory in Seven Hills, keeping us close to the tools, the deadlines and the daily reality of getting work built, finished and installed properly.
We may recruit across three countries, but we have not forgotten where the business started.
This is not an industry we chose from a list of recruitment sectors.
It is where we come from.

Recruitment Across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom

Joinery businesses operate differently from one workshop to the next, and the language of the trade can change depending on where you are.
One business may need a cabinet maker. Another may call the same person a bench joiner, furniture maker, shopfitter or installer.
We take the time to understand the actual work behind the title.
That means looking at what you manufacture, the materials and machinery you use, the software your office relies on, the standard expected and the type of person who will suit your team.
We recruit locally within Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, helping businesses find people who already understand the market, the working environment and the expectations in their region.

Roles We Recruit For

We recruit permanent staff across workshops, offices and job sites.
That includes cabinet makers, bench joiners, detailed joiners, furniture makers, shopfitters, installers, CNC operators, machinists, factory staff, drafters, designers, estimators, project coordinators, project managers, production managers, workshop supervisors and site managers.
Every role is different.
A cabinet maker producing high-end residential kitchens is not automatically suited to architectural joinery. A shopfitter may be brilliant on site but have little workshop experience. A drafter may know the software but not understand how the work is actually manufactured.
We look beyond the job title and find out what the person can genuinely do.

More Than Keywords on a Resume

We assess practical experience, materials, machinery, software, installation knowledge, reliability, communication and the kind of work the person has actually completed.
We also look at attitude.
Can they take direction? Can they work without constant supervision? Will they ask when something does not look right, or quietly make the same mistake across twenty panels?
Technical skill matters, but so does the way someone works alongside the rest of the team.
Our job is not to send you someone who looks close enough on paper.
It is to introduce people genuinely worth meeting.
Good People Are Usually Busy Working
The best joinery candidates are rarely sitting at home refreshing job boards.
They are already working, meeting deadlines and keeping someone else’s workshop moving.
They may not be actively applying, but they could still be open to better work, stronger leadership, improved pay, a shorter commute or a business that suits them properly.
That is why our network matters.
We build relationships with skilled joinery professionals across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom before they are ready to move.
When the right opportunity comes up, we know who may be worth speaking with.
